A identidade, oralidade, memória e tradição estão presentes no livro Incidentes da vida de uma escrava de Harriet Jacobs. O livro tinha como objetivo denunciar a escravidão, fazer um combate histórico. Ao contar suas memórias Harriet de forma sutil acaba por revelar todas as representações simbólicas criadas para a manutenção da escravidão. Este artigo procura analisar esse percurso simbólico que está intimamente ligado ao poder de transformarem seres humanos em escravos e seu combate através da construção de uma nova narrativa contra a escravidão.
Resumo Inglês:
Identity, orality, memory and tradition are present in the book Incidents in the
life of a slave Harriet Jacobs. The book was intended to denounce slavery, to a combat
history. In telling their memories of Harriet subtly turns out all symbolic representations
created for the maintenance of slavery. This article analyzes the symbolic walk which is
closely connected to the power to transform human beings into slaves and their struggle
through the construction of a new narrative against slavery.
