Como parte constitutiva de uma pesquisa mais abrangente, o presente artigo visa retomar o tema dos motins e das revoltas populares ocorridos nas Minas na primeira metade do século XVIII, tendo como estudo de caso as sublevações de Pitangui. Região ocupada originalmente por grupos de sertanistas oriundos de São Paulo e “Serra Acima†– alguns inclusive com notável participação na chamada “Guerra dos Emboabas†– desde seus primórdios Pitangui tornou-se palco de graves conflitos, opondo poderosos locais e diversas autoridades metropolitanas sediadas na Capitania. Nessa perspectiva e ainda que de forma bastante breve, neste artigo atentaremos mais especificamente para o próprio comportamento dos atores envolvidos nestas sublevações e em que medida a análise de tais fatores permite ao pesquisador aproximar-se do universo mais Ãntimo das idéias e práticas polÃticas de seus agentes.
As part of a more complete constitutive research, the current article aims at going back to the riots themes and the popular rebellions taken place in Minas Gerais during the first half of the18th Century, having as a case study the Pitangui’s incitation. This region was originally occupied by countryside groups originated from São Paulo and “Serra Acima†– some of them with remarkable participation in the so-called “Guerra dos Emboabas†– from the very beginning, Pitangui has become the stage for severe conflicts, going against powerful locals and several metropolitan authorities based in the “Capitaniaâ€. In this context and somehow simplified, this article concentrates more specifically in the behavior of the actors involved in those incitations and to what extent the analysis of such factors allows the researcher to get as close as possible to the universe of the ideas and political practices of its agents.
