Neste trabalho, pretendemos tecer algumas considerações sobre um episódio específico ocorrido na Belle Époque brasileira – o surgimento dos salões e chegada das chamadas “judias polacas”, oriundas do Leste Europeu, que aqui desembarcaram, motivadas pelas promessas de casamento, mas que vieram a se tornarem prostitutas nas cidades de São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro. Tudo isso é tematizado na narrativa Madame Pommery, de Hilário Tácito.

In this paper, we intend to make a few remarks about a specific episode
occurred in the Brazilian Belle Époque - the emergence of the arrival halls and the so-called
"Polish Jews", coming from Eastern Europe, and they landed here because of the promises of
marriage, but who would eventually become prostitutes in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de
Janeiro. All this is thematized in the narrative Madame Pommery, by Hilário Tácito.
