Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar
a tragédia como um elemento estético e
ético da cultura ocidental no século XX.
Para tanto, toma como referência Os
mutantes, escrita pelo inglês John Wyndham,
em 1955, e publicada no Brasil
pelas Edições GRD, em 1961. Parte-se
pressuposto de que tal livro, pertencente
ao gênero fi cção cientÃfi ca, seja
um importante ponto de partida para
pensar de que modo os componentes
da técnica, da eugenia e da monstruosidade
conformaram uma nova concepção
de tragédia, sintonizada com
as transformações contemporâneas.
No interior dessa visão, a catarse — e
a conseqüente emancipação humana —
só é possÃvel por meio da emergência
de uma sociedade que articule técnica
e comunicação intersubjetiva com
vistas à sedimentação de um projeto
humanista.
This article has as objective to study the
tragedy as an aesthetic and a ethical element
of the occidental culture in the past
century. For it, will be overcome as reference
“The mutantsâ€, writt en by the English
John Wyndham, in 1955, and published
in Brazil by Edições GRD, in 1961. Such
workmanship, pertaining to the sort scientifi
c fi ction, is conceived to be an important
starting point to think in which way the
components of the technique, the eugenism
and the monstrosity had conformed a new
conception of tragedy, syntonized with the
contemporary transformations. Within this
view, the catarsis — and the consequent
human being emancipation — is only
possible by means of the emergence of a
society that articulates technique and human
communication to the sedimentation
of a humanist project.
