Este trabalho tem por intuito analisar e compreender o funcionamento da Câmara da cidade do Natal em um período de 40 anos, entre 1720-1759, a partir da lista dos termos de vereações que os oficiais camarários realizaram nesse período mencionado. Procurar-se-á compreender os temas tratados nas vereações, os oficiais que a compunham, assim como a comparação desta com outras câmaras periféricas. Portanto, contribui-se para o melhor entendimento sobre o funcionamento desta instituição, e qual a importância e as ações desenvolvidas por instituições que não tinham grande relevância no contexto do Império ultramarino português, mas que localmente, correspondiam a um poder importante e de reforço do poder português sobre certa municipalidade.

This work aims to analyze and understand the workings of the municipal council of “Natal” in a period of 40 years, from 1720 to 1759, based on the records of the assemblyman held in that period. It will to understand the topics covered in the records, the officers who composed it, as well as comparing it to other peripheral municipal councils. Therefore, it contributes to a better understanding of the functioning of this institution, and the importance of the actions made by this institution that did not have much relevance in the context of the Portuguese overseas empire, but locally, corresponded to a major power and strength of the Portuguese power over a certain municipality.
