Este artigo visa entender que o processo de ocupação pelos imigrantes europeus e
descendentes pode ser considerado como elemento definidor da organização do
território composto pela porção noroeste do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. O segmento
produtivo passa constantemente por (re) arranjos de seus elementos sociais, técnicoestruturais
e de produção, considerando-se relevante para a análise da organização do
espaço regional, as condições físico-territoriais e o processo de ocupação estadual,
relacionado às atividades agropecuárias presentes.

Resumo Inglês:

This article aims at showing that the process of colonization of the northwest region of
the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, by European immigrants and their descendents
can be considered a defining element of the way the region is currently organized. The
production segments are constantly undergoing (re)arrangements in their social,
technical-structural and productive elements. Two factors are relevant to the analysis of
the organization of the region: the physical-territorial conditions and the process of
occupation of the whole state regarding agricultural and cattle-raising activities.
