This study aimed at reporting the occurrence of Desmiphora (Desmiphora) lateralis Thomson, 1868 (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Lamiinae), and characterizing the attack of insects to branches of Eugenia uniflora L. (Myrtaceae) found in a remnant of secondary vegetation located at the coordinates 30°12’29”S; 53°34’21”W, in the city of São Sepé, RS, Brazil. Insects were detected from the emergence of eight adults in 71 branches of ten trees of Eugenia uniflora, collected in August, 2014. The attack was characterized by the removal of external and internal barks, from the surroundings of the branch bases up to the vascular cambium, resulting in the branches breakage. We verified a preference for oviposition on branches with average diameter between 0.82cm and 1.16cm. This is the first register of Desmiphora (D.) lateralis species attacking branches of Eugenia uniflora in southern Brazil, establishing itself as an important pest in terms of potential risk to surinam cherry.
