With the exception of the deposits of the Camaquã group, all other sedimentary coverages of the Escudo Sul-riograndense have traditionally been referred to by the generic denomination of Caneleiras Formation, with age originally attributed to the Devonian. However, more recent mappings have come to regard this unit as a chronometer to the Gondwana deposits of the Rosario Group, although on the basis of sparse and inconclusive fossil records. In this work we present the preliminary characterization of the findings of fossil vertebrates, belonging to the Caneleiras Formation, in the region of Santana da Boa Vista (RS) and the faciological association of the deposits that contain them.
