Este artigo apresenta resultados de uma pesquisa cujo objetivo foi analisar o trabalho do assistente social na Defensoria Pública da União (DPU/CE), com foco na viabilização de benefícios indeferidos pelo Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social (INSS) por meio da perícia social, considerada o “carro-chefe” do processo de trabalho do Serviço Social na instituição, com o aumento da judicialização dos direitos sociais. A pesquisa, de natureza qualitativa, teve como sujeitos assistentes sociais que atuam na DPU/CE, envolvendo estudos bibliográficos, documentais e de campo, com questionários e entrevistas semiestruturadas. Utilizou-se o métododialético, que também fundamenta os estudos sociais realizados pelas entrevistadas, as quais, ao analisarem a realidade social de forma crítica, são norteadas por princípios do projeto ético-político da profissão, entre os quais se destacam a defesa dos direitos sociais da classe trabalhadora e o compromisso com a qualidade dos serviços prestados.

This article presents results of a research whose objective was to analyze the work of the social worker in the Public Defenders of the Union (DPU/CE), focusing on the feasibility of benefits rejected by the National Social Security Institute(INSS) through social expertise, considered the "flagship" of the Social Work process in the institution, with the increase in the judicialization of social rights. The research, of a qualitative nature, had social assistants working in the DPU/CE, involving bibliographical, documentary and field studies, with questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The dialectical method was used, which also bases the social studies carried out by the interviewees, who, when analyzing the social reality in a critical way, are guided by principles of the ethical-political project of the profession, among which are the defense of rights working class and commitment to the quality of services provided.
