Entre 1822 e o fim da década de 40, a classe dirigente brasileira enfrentou o desafio de construir o Estado Nacional. Os desafios e riscos postos foram enormes, e por quase três décadas foram a sua maior preocupação. Amadurecida social, econômica e politicamente neste período, as elites sulmineiras se engajaram ao lado dos Liberais Moderados na tarefa de manter a ordem social. Este artigo procura analisar as formas da sua participação e as repercussões que elas tiveram em sua consciência política.
Among 1822 – 1840 years, the Brazilian powerful class faced the challenge of creating the National State. The challenges and risks placed were enormous and for almost three decades they were the elite major concern. Socially, economically and politically matured at that moment, the South-Miner elite took part in the mission that aimed to keep the social order, side by side with the Moderated Liberals. This article intends to analyze how was their participation in the process and what was the repercussion of their acts.
