O objetivo desse texto é colocar sob análise o papel de agentes religiosos na elaboração da surdez afirmada como particularidade étnico-linguística. Para tanto,retomo brevemente a minha trajetória etnográfica nos domínios da surdez,com a intenção de evidenciar como desloquei o foco de minha análise para instituições e agentes religiosos.Em um segundo momento, argumento sobre o papel fundamental de agentes e instituições religiosos, sobretudo, Igreja Católica, Igreja Evangélica Luterana do Brasil e Igreja Batista na elaboração da surdez que ganhou normatividade jurídica no século XXI.
The lack of theoretical background in language matrices (sound, visual and verbal), especially in relation to visuality and the mixtures between matrices, highlights aspects that affect the distance of approach to the main feature of the collection of artifacts produced by deaf teachers and instructors during teaching practice: the appeal of imagery that adds other looks to literacy, reading, writing and literary production. Therefore, we investigate the visual issue, visual literacy, the need to read the image as text, and consider the visual cues of context. After this effort we discuss the importance of verbal literacy in order to read the text as an image.
