O objetivo deste artigo é sustentar a importância do debate acerca da unidade
entre a retórica e a filosofia a partir do movimento sofista. De modo geral, é a
união entre retórica e filosofia que vai dotar o orador de instrumentos teóricos
capazes de influenciar a vida na Polis. Será tratado o debate entre Parmênides e
Heráclito acerca da verdade. Depois, será abordada a relação entre a sofÃstica e a
retórica com ênfase em Protágoras e Górgias. A relação entre filosofia e retórica,
na civilização ocidental, é a história da relação entre verdade e probabilismo,
entre ser e estar, entre ontologia e gnoseologia. As perguntas e as respostas,
nessa relação, vão ditar o consenso ou o dissenso entre a filosofia e a retórica.

The purpose of this article is to sustain the importance of the debate about the
unity between rhetoric and philosophy from the sophist movement. Generally
speaking, is the union between rhetoric and philosophy that will allow to
provide the speaker of theoretical instruments capable of influencing their lives
in Polis. Will the treaty the debate between Parmenides and Heraclitus about
truth. Then it also looks at the relationship between the sophist movement and
the rhetoric with emphasis on Protagoras and Gorgias. The relationship between
philosophy and rhetoric, in western civilization, is the story of the relationship
between truth and likely, between being and being, between ontology and
gnoseology. The questions and answers in this respect will dictate the consensus
or the dissent between philosophy and rhetoric.
