O homem, desde priscas eras, dedica-se ao labor e, inicialmente, o executava
em um ambiente completamente ausente de proteção a sua incolumidade física.
Ao longo dos tempos, foram observadas, no ambiente laboral, a ocorrência de
enfermidades diretamente relacionadas ao exercício da profissão. De forma
bastante tímida, foram iniciados estudos alusivos às doenças ocupacionais,
sendo eleitos, a princípio, os trabalhadores das minas. Contudo, nos últimos
séculos, mais precisamente a partir da Revolução Industrial, os aspectos
deletérios no ambiente laboral se intensificaram. Nesse sentido, o presente
estudo tem por objetivo compreender e acompanhar como se procedeu à
conquista histórica atinente à saúde e à segurança do trabalhador no meio
ambiente de trabalho, e suas repercussões no Brasil e no mundo.
