O Ilari e a guerra cultural: a construção de agendas intelectuais na América Latina

Este artigo se volta para a análise das polÃticas culturais e envolvimento de intelectuais na guerra cultural. Seu foco é o Ilari (Instituto Latino-Americano de Relações Internacionais), órgão do Congresso pela Liberdade da Cultura (CCF). Se a literatura e as artes plásticas, ou belas-artes, haviam sido a tônica de investimentos do CCF nos anos 1950, a nova ênfase, na fase pósRevolução Cubana, foi o financiamento e apoio à s Ciências Sociais e à criação de “problemáticas latino-americanasâ€. Neste trabalho, apontamos como foi construÃda essa agenda e como come- çou a haver certo descompasso entre as polÃticas do CCF e os regimes ditatoriais que se instalavam na América do Sul, ainda que com respaldo logÃstico e polÃtico dos Estados Unidos.

This article addresses cultural policies and the involvement of intellectuals in culture war. It focus on Ilari, the Latin American Institute of International Relations/Instituto Latino Americano de Relações Internacionais, an organ of the Congress for Cultural Freedom (CCF). While literature and the visual arts, or fine arts, were the focus of CCF’s investment in the 1950s, its new emphasis in the post-Cuban revolution stage was on strong financing and support to Social Sciences and the creation of “Latin American issuesâ€. In this text, we point out how this agenda was formed and how a mismatch started to appear between CCF policies and dictatorships coming to power in South America, despite logistic and political support the United States granted these latter.
