O trabalho propõe uma reflexão sobre o cronotopo no romance O louco do Cati (1942), de autoria de Dyonélio Machado. Considerando-se, de acordo com o teórico russo Mikhail Bakhtin, que o cronotopo é a interligação das relações temporais e espaciais artisticamente assimiladas pela literatura e que é por meio desse elemento que a “realidade histórica” se introduz no romance, cabe examinar o modo pelo qual se processa o entrecruzamento do espaço e do tempo, e a representação da História, na ficção de Dyonélio Machado.
The present article offers a reflection on the chronotope in the novel O louco do Cati (1945), by Dyonélio Machado. According to Russian scholar/theoretician Mikhail Bakhtin, the chronotope is the interconnection of the relations between time and space artistically assimilated by literature, and, therefore, it is by that element “historical reality” is introduced in the romance. Bearing that in mind, we examine how space and time interconnect, as well as how History is represented, through Dyonélio Machado’s fiction.
