O texto analisa o episódio da pichação do monumento do Cristo Redentor, situado no Rio de Janeiro, ocorrido em 2010. Embora o caso tenha sido rapidamente resolvido, com a apresentação e retratação dos culpados, ele permite uma abordagem que revela a economia de sentidos em que circula o monumento. Outras situações envolvendo ataques ao Cristo Redentor são recuperadas para a demonstração do argumento. De acordo com este, a pichação não deixa de fazer o que outros usos e outras referências ao monumento operam: um comentário e uma intervenção sobre a cidade. Assim, a sacralidade desse objeto é melhor evidenciada pelas transgressões que nele e com ele se fazem.

The text analyzes the graffiti (pichação) episode of the Christ the Redeemer monument, located in Rio de Janeiro, which occurred in 2010. Although the case was quickly resolved with the presentation and retraction of the culprits, it allows an approach that reveals the economy of meanings in which the monument circulates. Other situations involving attacks on Christ the Redeemer are retrieved for the demonstration of the argument. According to this, the illegal painting does not stop doing what other uses and other references to the monument operate: a commentary and an intervention on the city. Thus, the sacredness of this object is best evidenced by the transgressions over its materiality.
