O CRISTÃO E A POLÍTICA: O FILHO DE DEUS NO REINO DOS HOMENS

A simples menção da palavra “política” deixa muitos cristãos, sobretudo os mais
conservadores, em estado de alerta. Como se isso não bastasse, a oposição à relação cristãopolítica
encontra eco mesmo nas fileiras que estão à margem do cristianismo ou ocupam lugar
em sua ala liberal. De forma natural surgem as perguntas: tal preocupação é legítima? Pode o
cristão engajar-se em práticas políticas e ainda manter a sua posição de autêntico seguidor de
Cristo? Que espécie de relação entre o cristão e a política seria eticamente aceitável e não
colocaria o membro regular de uma denominação cristã em contraposição aos princípios
bíblicos? Deve a igreja cristã envolver-se com essas preocupações? O presente artigo busca
considerar esses questionamentos sob a ótica de algumas necessidades do mundo em sua esfera
social e das contribuições que o cristianismo tem a oferecer.

Resumo Inglês:

The mere allusion of the word "politics" leaves many Christians in a state of alert,
especially the more conservative ones. And as it were not enough, the opposition to Christian
and Politics finds an echo even in the marginal groups of Christianity and even among liberals.
Naturally the questions arise: Is this a legitimate concern? May a Christian be engaged in
political activities and still maintain his stand as an authentic follower of Christ? What kind of
relationship would be ethically acceptable of a Christian and politics? Would this not place the
regular Church-going member in opposition to biblical principles? Should the Christian Church
involve itself with such concerns? This article seeks to consider these issues from the
perspective of some needs of the world in its social sphere and from the contributions that
Christianity has to offer.
