O coração do faraó é mencionado vinte vezes em Ex 4–14. Por dez vezes, narra-se como o Senhor, Deus de Israel, age com o coração do rei do Egito. Com isso, surge a questão de como se configura esta ação divina ante aquele que insiste em políticas opressivas. No caso, o faraó ainda pode salvar-se? Ou já existe algum tipo de predestinação no que se refere à sua morte violenta? No mais, por quatro vezes, o faraó age com seu coração e, por seis vezes, o coração dele atua sobre si mesmo. O que, no entanto, acontece, especificamente, no interior do rei do Egito? Nesse sentido, o estudo aqui apresentado visa à análise semântica do vocabulário decisivo e à descrição de possíveis conotações teológicas do que se narra sobre o coração do faraó.

The heart of Pharaoh is mentioned twenty times in Ex 4–14. Ten times, it tells how the Lord God of Israel, acts with the heart of the king of Egypt. Thus, the question arises of how to configure this divine action front with who insists in oppressive policies. Can still the pharaoh be saved? Or is there already some sort of predestination with regard to his violent death? In most, four times, Pharaoh acts with his heart, and six times, his heart acts on himself. What, however, happens, more specifically, with the king of Egypt? In this sense, the study presented here aims to semantic analysis of decisive vocabulary and the description of possible theological connotations of what is narrated about the Pharaoh’s heart.
