O presente artigo se propõe a investigar a experiência de encontro com o Mysterium Tremendum comunicadas através da estética cinematográfica adotada por David Lynch no seriado Twin Peaks, compreendendo possíveis metáforas sobre o American Way of Life, temática recorrente na obra de Lynch. Com isso, pretendemos adentrar o terreno da compreensão do sagrado, de maneira especial no diálogo com a ideia do Numinoso, que se revela como Mysterium Tremendum et Fascinosum, segundo as elaborações de Rudolf Otto. Para tanto, o artigo recorre a este autor e Mircea Eliade, no que diz respeito à compreensão do sagrado em seus aspectos simbólicos e ritualísticos, vistos a partir de uma antropologia religiosa. Para desenvolver satisfatoriamente o presente estudo buscamos conhecer as temáticas recorrentes na filmografia de David Lynch, buscando possíveis leituras de sua linguagem estética, buscando esclarecer onde Twin Peaks pode remeter a experiências ontológicas com a realidade do sagrado e como isso pode ser interpretado para os contextos atuais.

This article proposes to investigate the experience of meeting with the Mysterium Tremendum communicated through the cinematographic aesthetics adopted by David Lynch in the series Twin Peaks, comprising possible metaphors on the American Way of Life, recurrent theme in the work of Lynch . With this, we intend to enter into the realm of the understanding of the sacred, especially in the dialogue with the idea of Numinous, which is revealed as Mysterium Tremendum et Fascinosum, according to the elaborations of Rudolf Otto. To this end, the article refers to this author and Mircea Eliade, regarding the understanding of the sacred in its symbolic and ritualistic aspects, seen from a religious anthropology. In order to satisfactorily develop the present study, we sought to know the recurrent themes in David Lynch's filmography, seeking possible readings of his aesthetic language, seeking to clarify where Twin Peaks can refer to ontological experiences with the reality of the sacred and how this can be interpreted for the current contexts.
