A nação, o tempo e o outro: Ernest Lavisse analisa o Império Alemão

Este artigo tem como ponto central a obra Essais sur l’Allemagne Impériale (1888), de Ernest Lavisse (1842-1922), historiador, professor, diretor da École normale e membro da Académie française, para discutir as relações entre o tempo e construção da nação tendo o “outro” como parâmetro. No terço final do século XIX, marcado pela Guerra Franco-Prussiana (1870-1871) coincidem a ascensão dos nacionalismos, a constituição da história como ciência e uma nova atitude perante o tempo decorrente da Segunda Revolução Industrial e de diversas descobertas científicas. Neste contexto demonstraremos como diferentes ações relativas ao passado e ao futuro podem influenciar discursos políticos do presente, tomando o contexto vivido por Lavisse como importante exemplo. Também traremos algumas reflexões a respeito da influência do nacionalismo sobre a produção do historiador.

This article focuses on Essais sur l'Allemagne Impériale (1888) by Ernest Lavisse (1842-1922), historian, professor, director of the École Normale and member of the Académie française, to discuss the relations between time and construction of the nation having the "other" as a parameter. In the final third of the nineteenth century, marked by the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) coincide the rise of nationalism, the constitution of history as a science and a new attitude to the time arising from the Second Industrial Revolution and various scientific discoveries. In this context we will show how different actions regarding the past and the future can influence political discourses of the present, taking the context lived by Lavisse as an important example. We will also bring some reflections on the influence of nationalism on the production of the historian.
