My studies on the representations and sensitivities on the madness of literary texts in the early twentieth century (through the cultural history) back to 1998, when I found in the medical records of the psychiatric hospital São Pedro of Porto Alegre (Brazil), twelve letters written by a mental patient whose had never been sent . As a psychiatrist and historian, I am interested by the idea that "crazy people" has of himself and of his madness. Subsequently, I examined other fictional texts in Brazilian literature (Lima Barreto and Rocha Pombo) and in Quebec (Émile Nelligan) which relate to 'asylum´s writings', where I could observe how writing fiction - which in this context stimulates creativity - is revealed as the source and expression of memory and (re) construction of the identity of individuals in a situation of social exclusion (writers, here). In this article I would like to share, briefly and comparatively, the results of this research, that completes 15 years in its various stages, from the texts of the mentioned writers.

Mes études sur les représentations et les sensibilités sur la folie dans des textes littéraires au début du XXe siècle (au moyen de l'histoire culturelle) remontent à 1998, lorsque j´ai trouvé, dans les dossiers médicaux de l'hôpital psychiatrique São Pedro à Porto Alegre (Brésil), douze lettres écrites par un malade mental qui n'ont jamais été envoyées. En tant que psychiatre et historienne, je m´intéresse par l'idée que le “fou” a de lui-même et de sa folie. Par la suite, j´ai examiné d'autres textes de fiction dans la littérature brésilienne (Lima Barreto et Rocha Pombo) et québécoise (Émile Nelligan) qui se rapportent à des 'écritures asilaires', d´où j'ai pu observer comment l'écriture de fiction - qui dans ce contexte stimule la créativité - est révélée comme source et expression de la mémoire et de la (re) construction de l'identité des individus (écrivains, ici !) dans une situation d'exclusion sociale. Dans cet article je voudrais partager, brièvement et de façon comparatiste, des résultats de cette recherche, qui parfaire 15 ans dans ses différentes étapes, à partir des textes des écrivains mentionnés.
