O estudo é classificado como descritivo, tendo em vista que o intuito é apresentar as definições de manutenção preventiva, corretiva, manutenção produtiva total - MPT e identificar os benefícios e vantagens visando melhorar a produtividade, a redução de custos e a diminuição da degradação ambiental produzidos pelos resíduos de veículos automotores avariados. Quanto à abordagem do estudo, ele é qualitativo, dado o propósito de identificar e analisar a economia promovida pela manutenção preventiva automotiva. No estudo, ainda, se questiona como uma oficina de manutenção do tipo auto elétrica e diagnose veicular poderá implementar um plano de manutenção preventiva dos veículos de seus clientes e, verificar os impactos financeiros dele oriundo, por meio de uma pesquisaação. Os resultados dessa pesquisa-ação verifica que a manutenção preventiva automotiva ainda não é muito praticada, dentre os proprietários de veículos procurados, sendo que apenas 30% o fizeram. Em relação ao retorno financeiro da entidade analisada, nos períodos de dezembro/2018 e janeiro/2019, houve aumento de lucratividade de 48% e 60%, respectivamente.

The study is classified as descriptive, considering that the purpose is to present the definitions of preventive, corrective maintenance, total productive maintenance - TPM and identify the benefits and advantages to improve productivity, reduce costs and reduce environmental degradation produced by damaged motor vehicle. As for the study approach, it is qualitative, given the purpose of identifying and analyzing the economy promoted by automotive preventive maintenance. The study also asks how an garage and car shop diagnostics repair could implement a preventive maintenance plan for its customers' vehicles and verify its financial impacts through an action research. The results of this action research verify that automotive preventive maintenance is not yet widely practiced among the owners of vehicles sought, and only 30% did. In relation to the financial return of the analyzed entity, in the periods of December/2018 and January /2019, there was an increase of profitability of 48% and 60%, respectively.
