Este texto tem como objetivo, num primeiro momento, desenvolver uma reflexão sobre o uso de livros didáticos de matemática como fontes para a pesquisa, visando responder à seguinte questão: Como utilizar livros didáticos para investigar o trajeto histórico da educação matemática? Numa etapa seguinte, o texto focaliza a Companhia Editora Nacional, casa editorial fundada em 1926, que se transformou numa das maiores editoras de livros didáticos de matemática escritos por autores brasileiros. Norteia essa abordagem, a pergunta: que papel teve a Nacional na história da educação matemática brasileira durante o século XX? O trabalho apresenta, também, o Arquivo da Cia. Editora Nacional, e busca demonstrar o quão valiosas são contribuições que ele pode dar às investigações da história da educação matemática no Brasil. Por fim, o texto menciona pesquisas internacionais sobre o livro didático e as tendências que vêm sendo seguidas nos últimos vinte anos.
This text has as its aim, in the first moment, to develop a reflection about the use of mathematics textbooks as data sources for research. It intends to answers the following question: How to use textbooks to investigate the historical trajectory of mathematics education? In the second part, the text focuses on Companhia Editora Nacional, an editorial house founded in 1926, which transformed into one of the largest editors of mathematics textbooks written by Brazilian authors. Directing the research approach is the question: What role did the Nacional have in the history of mathematics education in Brazil in the 20th Century. The work also presents the companies archive and seeks to show how valuable the contributions that this archive can bring to investigations in the history of mathematics education in the country. To this end, the text mentions international researches about textbooks and the tendencies that have been developing in the last 20 years.
