LA CUESTIÓN DE LA VIDA ECONÓMICO-SOCIAL EN EL CONCILIO VATICANO II. APORTES DE LATINOAMÉRICA Y EL CARIBE

ABSTRACT: The agenda of Vatican II was progressively delineated from the consultation proposed by John XXIII, in 1959-1960. The contributions of Latin American and Caribbean protagonists collaborated in putting it together. Among other aspects, they drew attention to multiple issues related to the so-called social doctrine of the Church. This article offers an overview of the proposals and, subsequently, presents and analyses the interventions in the conciliar hall (1964-1965), concerning the debates on the topic of socio-economic-life” and on its corresponding chapter in the drafting of Gaudium et spes. The itinerary allows us to visualize the growing development of an ecclesial and socio-cultural awareness, some changes in the course of things and, also, seeds of developments that would appear in the post-conciliar period regarding the theological-pastoral method and theological categories such as liberation and option for the poor, which had been absent until then.

RESUMEN: La agenda de temas del Vaticano II se fue delineando progressivamente a partir de la consulta propuesta por Juan XXIII en 1959-1960. Las respuestas de los protagonistas latino-americanos y caribenhos colaboraron a diseñar ese temario, entre otros aspectos, llamando la atención sobre múltiples assuntos vinculados a la llamada doctrina social de la Iglesia. El presente artículo ofrece un panorama de esas propuestas y, posteriormente, una presentación y análisis de las intervenciones en los debates conciliares cuando, en el proceso de la redacción de Gaudium et spes, la temática y el capítulo acerca de “la vida económico-social” fueron debatidos en el aula conciliar en 1964 y 1965. El itinerario permite visualizar el desarrollo creciente de una determinada conciencia eclesial y socio cultural, algunas correcciones de rumbo no menores y, también, gérmenes de desarrollos que en el posconcilio se materializaron en el plano del método teológico-pastoral y en categorías teológicas como liberación y opción por los pobres, todavía ausentes en ese período.
