This study begins with the historical and educational event regarding to the process
of implementing of the new curricular proposals, in 2008, by the Education Department of
São Paulo State destined to junior and high school education, which in 2009 became the
Curricular official of that state. We aim to interpret the identity process of temporary English
language teachers through the representations they make about their satisfaction level of
knowledge about the target language that they teach, about the significance and importance
of this language on their lives. This study is grounded in the theoretical and methodological
framework of Discourse Analysis, supported by the representation theory of Pecheux (1990),
the concept of identity of Coracini (2003, 2007) and Hall (2000, 2006). For the constitution of
our corpus, we conducted an interview with three teachers, at the end of the school year
2009. The data indicate that the assumed position of the subject in the world is imbricated
with the object of love and desire, that is, the English language, in what subjects are reluctant
to control it, master it, however, they face the inability to possess it and thus they assume a
position of submission towards the impossibility of appropriation
