O artigo apresenta uma breve história e desenvolvimento dos conceitos de surdez, de comunidade surda e de Língua de Sinais Alemã (em alemão, DeutscheGebärdens-prache-DGS) na sociedade e no ensino superior da Alemanha. Apresenta a estrutu-ra dos cursos de Educação Especial para Surdos,de Tradutor-intérprete de Língua de Sinais (TILS), de Pedagogia de Língua de Sinais e Estudos Surdos em universidades e institutos federais, que acontecem de forma distinta se comparados ao sistema brasileiro. Para ensinar DGS e pesquisar/discutir sobre a perspectiva surda, é absolutamente necessário ter professores surdos formados, porém existem poucos. Para entender o motivo desse fato, esse artigo ilustra as reais trajetórias de acessibilidade do aluno e professor/docente surdos no sistema educacional e acadêmico ligadas à tradição oralista naquele país.
The article demonstrates a brief history and development of the concept of deafness, deaf community and German Sign Language (German: Deutsche Gebärdensprache -DGS) in society and higher education in Germany. And the facilities of Deaf Education, Sign Language Intérpreting, Sign Language Pedagogy and Deaf Studies in universities and federal institutes were and are going differently, comparing with the Brazilian system. Also to teach DGS and research / discuss about the deaf perspective it is absolutely necessary to have deaf teachers trained, but there are only a few. For the question, why this fact happened, this article illustrates the real accessibility trajectories of the deaf student and deaf teacher in the educational system and finally academic, linked to the oral tradi-tion in that country.
