JOANA D’ARC, O POVO E A CRIANÇA: A LEITURA ROMÂNTICA DA IDADE MÉDIA POR JULES MICHELET

O presente trabalho pretende analisar a representação da figura de Joana d’Arc na obra do
historiador francês Jules Michelet (1798-1874). Para tal, relacionamos as leituras das obras Joana d’Arc e
O Povo, esta última de caráter mais teórico, na qual Michelet refletiu sobre o povo e sua participação na
construção da nação. Michelet é um dos representantes do Romantismo europeu do século XIX e, como
tal, utilizou-se de metáforas para analisar os processos históricos. A problemática proposta foi a de
entender as implicações das metáforas utilizadas por Michelet para caracterizar Joana d’Arc, como
criança, povo e a designação de dotada de bom senso no entusiasmo. Chegamos à conclusão que as
metáforas empregadas ligam-se às ideias de unidade e unificação que, em última instância, remetem à
noção romântica de unidade do povo francês e de unificação da França.

Resumo Inglês:

The present production intends to analyze the representation of Jeanne d'Arc’s figure in the
French historiographer Jules Michelet (1798-1874) work. For that, we brought the readings of the piece
Jeanne d'Arc into relation with The People, this last with more theoretical feature, in which Michelet
thought about people and its participation in nation’s building. Michelet is one of the 20th Century
European Romanticism ministers and, as that, made use of metaphors to analyse the historical processes.
The proposition was to understand the metaphors involvement used by Michelet in order to characterize
Jeanne d'Arc as a child, people and the assignment of presented of sound sense in the enthusiasm. We
reached a conclusion that the metaphors used combine with the union and unification thoughts that, in the
last instance, remits to the romantic conception of the French people union and France unification.
