Este estudo caracteriza as produções nacionais relacionadas à prática interdisciplinar entre as áreas de nutrição e odontologia.
A pesquisa foi realizada a partir da base de dados da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) no período de 2000 a 2010. Sob
essa perspectiva, realizou-se um levantamento bibliométrico com abordagem quantitativa. As produções foram obtidas por meio
de busca virtual com a adoção de agrupamentos dos seguintes descritores: ‘nutrição’ and ‘odontologia’, ‘nutrição’ and ‘saúde
bucal’, ‘alimentação’ and ‘odontologia’, ‘saúde bucal’ and ‘odontologia’. Os dados foram analisados quanto à fonte de localização,
categoria e nível de formação dos primeiros autores, tipo de produção, ano e região onde foi realizado o estudo, palavras-chave e
periódicos. Verificou-se que a Lilacs e SciELO foram as únicas bases de dados que forneceram produções acerca do tema. A região
que mais publica é o Sudeste e, entre os autores, 78,95% eram odontólogos e apenas 2,63% nutricionistas; 65,79% são doutores.
Entre as palavras-chave, a de maior ocorrência foi ‘saúde bucal’ e o intervalo entre 2006 e 2008 registrou o maior no número de
produções. Quanto aos periódicos, apenas um deles publicou mais de um artigo sobre essa temática em um mesmo ano. Conclui-
se que o cenário de produções envolvendo práticas interdisciplinares entre nutrição e odontologia ainda é escasso, necessitando
maior investigação acerca desse tema.

This study characterizes the Brazilian papers related to the interdisciplinary practice between the areas of nutrition and
dentistry. The research was conducted by using the database Virtual Health Library (VHL) within the period from 2000 to
2010. From this perspective, a bibliometric survey was conducted with a quantitative approach. The papers were obtained by
means of a virtual search adopting these descriptor groupings: ‘nutrition’ and ‘dentistry’, ‘nutrition’ and ‘oral health’, ‘feeding’
and ‘dentistry’, and ‘oral health’ and ‘dentistry’. Data were analyzed with regard to source location, category and first authors’
education level, publication type, year and region where the study was conducted, Key-words and journals. We found out that
LILACS and SciELO were the only databases that provided papers on the theme. The region that publishes more papers is the
Southeast and, among the authors, 78.95% were dentists and only 2.63% were nutritionists; 65.79% have earned a Ph.D. degree.
Among the Key-words, the most frequent was ‘oral health’ and the interval between 2006 and 2008 registered the largest number
of papers. As for the journals, only one of them has published more than one article addressing this theme in the same year. We
conclude that the scenario of papers involving interdisciplinary practices between nutrition and dentistry is still poor, and further
investigation on this theme is needed.
