Este artigo analisa a crítica construída, no norte de Minas Gerais, à mineiridade. Na segunda metade do século XX, junto com a modernização econômica, um conjunto de discursos procurou instituir uma identidade específica na região, negando sua filiação à história e cultura mineiras. Diversas instituições e personagens contribuíram nesse processo, entre eles o engenheiro Simeão Ribeiro Pires e o economista Expedicto Mendonça, cujas ideias e trajetórias são privilegiadas neste texto.

This article analyzes the critical built in the north of Minas Gerais, to the “mineiridade”. In the second half of the twentieth century, along with economic modernization, a set of speeches sought to adopt a specific identity in the region, denying his membership of the history and Minas Gerais culture. Various institutions and characters contributed to this process, including Simeon Ribeiro Pires engineer and economist Expedicto Mendonca, whose ideas and paths are privileged in this text.
