This article aims to analyze the impacts of rural settlements in the municipality of Candiota, located in the southern region of Rio Grande do Sul. The initial discussion starts with the process of territorial occupation of Rio Grande do Sul, where regional differences begin, on the one hand the large estate in the southern part of the state, and on the other the small property in the north-northeast part of the state. The modernization process in agriculture since 1960 has aggravated socioeconomic inequalities, causing increased rural exodus, land concentration and income. This process led to the emergence of social movements in the countryside, which demanded the distribution of land and land ownershipconcentration. In the late 1980s, rural settlements are beginning to be implemented in Candiota, causing a decrease in the foundational concentration and increasing the socioeconomic dynamism in the rural area of ​​the municipality. In 2006, Candiota counts on twenty-five settlements with 693 families that changed and generate a new dynamics in the municipality
