Ancorado nas contribuições teóricas de Castoriadis (1987) acerca dos conceitos de imaginário e representação social e metodologicamente inscrito no vasto campo da Análise do Discurso (AD), este trabalho teve como objetivo identificar aspectos relativos à identidade social de carvoeiros, com base na análise das vozes de trabalhadores (patrões e empregados) em carvoarias da região do Bolsão sul-mato-grossense. A primeira etapa da investigação consistiu de pesquisa bibliográfica; a segunda compreendeu entrevistas com quatro sujeitos – dois patrões e dois empregados –, observando-se a variável sexo para ambas as categorias. As análises concentraram-se nos sentidos de justiça e cidadania, emanados das falas dos entrevistados, evidenciando a falta de fronteiras discursivas nítidas entre as representações, apesar da visibilidade dos lugares de patrão e empregado: os conceitos de cidadania e justiça apontaram para o sentido segundo o qual pertencer a um grupo de trabalhadores é garantia de sobrevivência.

Base on Castoriadis (1987) theoretical contributions about the imaginary and social representation concepts, and methodologically subscribed in the wide field of Discourse Analysis, this work has as a goal to identify aspects related on the coaler social identity, studying the worker speeches in the coal regions of Mato Grosso do Sul State. The first step of the investigation is a bibliography research; the second step we have some interviews with four men – two bosses and two employees – observing the sex variations for both categories. The analysis is dealt with justice and citizen senses that come from the interviewers, showing the lack of clear discursive border among the representations despite the visibility of the places that the boss and the employee have: the concepts of citizenship and justice show the importance of belonging to a group of workers that, with this, has their survival guaranteed.
