Este artigo pretende defender a possibilidade da abordagem literária pela perspectiva
dos estudos de gênero em sua associação com a questão racial, com vistas ao estudo da literatura
de escritoras negras, excluÃdas do cânone literário. Para tanto, exploramos a biografia, as obras
crÃticas e literárias da escritora zimbabuense Yvonne Vera como exemplo de uma escrita
feminina negra contemporânea. Além disso, aspectos dos escritos e da escritura de Vera são
cotejados com aqueles da escritora afro-americana Alice Walker, ambos representativos de uma
imaginação literária negra, cujos escritos vêem abrindo espaços no sistema literário para
expressão de suas individualidades. Por fim, aludimos à relevância dos estudos de tradução para
expressão e aproximação de culturas africanas, afro-americanas e afro-brasileiras.
This article aims to defend the possibility of a literary approach from the gender
studies perspective in its association with race, in order to study the literature by black women
writers, who are excluded from the literary canon. Hence, we explore the biography, the critical
and the literary works by the Zimbabwean writer Yvonne Vera as an example of a
contemporaneous black female writing. Thus, aspects of the texts and of the writing process of
Vera are compared to those of the Afro-American writer Alice Walker, as both authors are
representatives of a black literary imagination, whose writings are opening spaces in the literary
system to the expression of their individualities. At last, we refer to the relevance of the
translation studies to the expression and approximation of the African, Afro-American and
Afro-Brazilian cultures.
