The present study evaluated the environmental impacts caused by the installation of a castor bean processing agro-industry in the municipality of Pocinhos-PB, taking into account the possible contribution of the same to local and sustained socio-economic development. In order to identify the environmental impacts caused by the undertaking, technical procedures were carried out, among which data were collected through field visits with photographic description and registration, as well as interviews with producers, cooperatives and residents of the municipality, especially those residing near the project. Negative impacts observed: noise pollution, visual pollution, air pollution through the exhalation of gases from the beginning of the decomposition process of the tailings launched in the open, soil pollution through inadequate disposal of waste and low generation of direct employment in castor bean processing. Positive impacts: development of the local economy, generation of indirect jobs in the municipality and surrounding cities, ease of production flow.
