O objetivo desse trabalho é promover uma reflexão sobre a presença feminina que
cerca a mÃtica figura de Édipo, personagem central da tragédia homônima escrita por Sófocles.
Buscando descobrir sua real identidade, Édipo não percebe que, implÃcita ou explicitamente presentes
no texto, as figuras femininas – representadas por Mérope, sua mãe adotiva; Hécate, a
deusa guardiã dos trÃvios; a Esfinge, ser com rosto de mulher e corpo de leão; e a própria Jocasta,
mãe e esposa ao mesmo tempo – anunciam-lhe clara ou veladamente suas desgraças futuras,
quando chegar ao fim de sua busca por si mesmo.
Resumo Inglês:
The objective of this work is to promote a research about the female presence that
surrounds Oedipus’ mythical figure, central character from Sophocles’s homonym tragedy. When
he tries to discover his real identity, Oedipus does not discern, implicit and explicit in the text,
female figures – played by Merope, his step mother; Hecate, goddess of the crossroads; Sphinx,
creature with woman face and lion body; and Jocasta, mother and wife at the same time – announce
him clearly or veiled his future misfortunes, when he finally comes to the end of the search
for himself.
