O presente artigo é parte integrante dos resultados das pesquisas referentes à dissertação de mestrado em curso, cujo objetivo maior é analisar a formação da elite social marianense a partir dos oficiais presentes nos assentos da Câmara Municipal de Vila do Carmo durante os anos de 1711 até 1736. Por agora, nossa intenção é apresentar o ambiente em que se forjou a elite em questão, os mecanismos utilizados por ela na sua empreitada em busca de uma ascensão social, bem como a forma que a Coroa Portuguesa utilizou desses seus fiéis vassalos tendo em vista a implantação das polÃticas reais no ultramar.
This article is part of research results related to the masters dissertation in progress, whose prime objective is to examine the training of higth society marianense from the official seats in Vila do Carmo’s City Council during the years from 1711 until 1736. Our intention is to present the environment in which they formed the higth society in question, the mechanisms used by it in its work in search of a social ascension, and the way that the Portugal’s king of used its loyal vassals of these with a view to implementing ours policies .
