Resumo Inglês:

The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of the WRF model for wind speed prognosis in the central region of the State of Alagoas (Craíbas). The outputs of the model (hourly means) were compared to the anemometric data of the PVPN (Wind Forecasting in Wind Farms in Northeast Brazil) project. The period studied was from January to December 2014. The results showed that the WRF model estimated well the monthly and daily wind speed averages. The deviations are higher in the dry months (0.66 ms -1 ) than in the rainy months. Throughout the year the mean difference (WRF - OBS) was only 0.23 ms -1 (6.14 ms -1 versus 5.91 ms -1), proving that this model is a great tool for forecasting wind for wind farms.
