Estigma e Velhice: ensaios sobre a manipulação da idade deteriorada

A abordagem do envelhecimento é assunto tratado por diversas ciências e
saberes. Se antes o estudo nessa área era uma raridade, com a contribuição do que se
tornou um problema social, essa categoria vem recebendo relativa importância nas
arenas acadêmicas, televisivas e nos diversos âmbitos de socialização tendo como saída
os propósitos da terceira idade. Dentre as várias abordagens que nela se configuram,
temos as questões de identidade, papéis sociais e estigma. De cunho teórico, este estudo
tem como objetivo analisar o processo estigmatizante pelos quais passam os idosos, e
como esse fenômeno se torna interessante para refletirmos acerca das relações entre os
idosos e os demais indivíduos na sociedade. Foram utilizados livros e artigos
disponibilizados na internet, de autores que se destacam no assunto, tendo como base o
estudo feito por Erving Goffman (1988), em seu livro Estigma: notas sobre a
manipulação da imagem deteriorada. Será discutida, a visão do estigma em Goffman, a
construção social da velhice e a relação com o estigma social, à medida que são
mencionados alguns elementos, tais como: identidade social, visibilidade,
encobrimento, técnicas de controle de informação e biografia, que por sua vez são
pertinentes para refletimos a partir de conceitos sobre estigma empregados por
Goffman. Deste modo, o presente trabalho estabelece uma conexão entre
envelhecimento e estigma, no sentido de não apenas aumentar o conhecimento sobre o
tema, mas também incentivar o estudo e as pesquisas sobre a temática para
investigadores e demais interessados.

The approach of the aging it is a subject handled by several sciences and
knowledges. Before, the study in this area was a rarity, with the contribution of what
has become a social problem, this category has received relative importance in
academic arenas, television and in various areas of socialization, and as output, the
purposes of third age. Among several approaches that are configured on it, we have
issues of identity, social roles and stigma. This study aims to analyze the stigmatizing
by which pass the elderly and how this phenomenon is interesting to reflect on the
relationships between them and the other individuals in society. It was used books and
articles available on the Internet, coming from authors who highlight in the subject,
based on the study by Erving Goffman in his book Stigma: Notes on the management of
the deteriorated image. It Will be discussed, the comprehension of stigma in Goffman,
the social construction of old age and relationship with the social stigma, as they are
referred to some elements, such as: social identity, visibility, concealment, techniques of
information control and biography, which are relevant to reflect about concepts from
stigma applyed by Goffman. Thus, this study establishes a connection between aging
and stigma to not only increase knowledge on the subject, but also encourage the study
and research on the topic for researchers and other interested parties.
