FARAJI, H.; BAB, L.; ARDESHIRI, H. Effects of resistance exercise intensity and volume on postexercise
hypotensive responses. Brazilian Journal of Biomotricity, v. 4, n. 1, p 65-73, 2010. The effects of intensity
and volume of resistance exercise on recovery blood pressure is not well understood. The aim of this study
was to compare the effects of different intensities and volumes of resistance exercises on post-exercise
blood pressure responses. Fourteen young normotensive women participated in this study. Subjects was
performed in a randomized order four sessions resistance exercise of Short volume (3 sets) Low intensity
(SHL) and Long volume (7 sets) Low intensity (LOL) at 30% 1RM; Short volume High intensity (SHH) and
Long volume High intensity (LOH) at 70% 1RM. Blood pressure was measured before exercise and at
intervals of 10 min for 90 min after exercise. Systolic blood pressure decreased similarly for 70 min after
SHL, LOL, SHH and LOH exercise trials, whereas diastolic blood pressure presented no significantly change
after trials. In conclusion, intensity and volume of resistance exercise in young normotensive women did not
influence the magnitude and duration of post-exercise hypotension.
