O presente artigo tem o objetivo de analisar a possibilidade de se reconhecer dignidade à água, e bem assim problematizar a sua relação intrínseca com o saneamento básico, uma vez que a proteção e a preservação deste ser vivo (água), associadas à concretização do direito fundamental ao saneamento básico, impactam diretamente na proteção dos direitos à vida, em seu sentido mais amplo, e à saúde das pessoas e do próprio planeta Terra. Nesse cenário, verifica-se que, no Brasil há grave violação à dignidade da água e do meio ambiente como um todo, exigindo medidas mais eficazes por parte do Estado e de todos os atores sociais.

This article aims to analyze the possibility of recognizing the dignity water, as well as discuss its intrinsic relationship with sanitation, since the protection and preservation of this living being (water), associated with the realization of the right basic sanitation, directly impact the protection of the rights to life, in its broadest sense, and the health of people and the planet Earth itself. In this scenario, it appears that in Brazil there is serious violation of the dignity of the water and the environment as a whole, requiring more effective action by the state and all social actors
