Este artigo é uma análise dos processos editoriais de Eça de Queiroz. O objetivo é destacar as relações entre esses processos e as representações de leituras e leitores no contexto do século XIX. Nesse sentido, compreende-se que a obra literária é um complexo artefato social e cultural, constituída por meio de várias etapas, entre elas, a edição. Todavia, editar não se restringe às elaborações materiais ou formais do texto e nem se limita ao trabalho do editor. Antes disso, trata-se também de uma construção simbólica, fundamental para se compreender os significados que constituem uma determinada produção literária, além de reveladora do papel desempenhado pelos diferentes agentes envolvidos no fenômeno da leitura, como: o leitor, o escritor e o editor.

This paper is an analysis of editorial processes of Eca de Queiroz. The aim is to highlight the relationship between these processes and representations of readings and readers in the context of the nineteenth century. So, it is understood that the literary work is a social and cultural complex artifact, made through several steps, among them the issue. However, editing is not restricted to material or formal elaborations of the text and not merely the work of the editor. Before that, it is also a symbolic construction, important to understand the meanings of a particular literary production, as well as revealing the role played by the different actors involved in the reading phenomenon: as the reader, the writer and the editor.
