Habitada majoritariamente pelo povo Kaingang, a Terra Indígena Xapecó/SC está localizada no oeste do estado de Santa Catarina. A região passou por grandes mudanças socioeconômicas, culturais e ambientais desde a chegada de imigrantes europeus. As políticas desenvolvimentistas efetuadas pelo Estado no decorrer do contato estabelecido com as populações indígenas e transformações nas suas práticas culturais cotidianas ocorreram principalmente na dieta alimentar e na saúde do povo, isso em conjunto com a dinamicidade das culturas, sobretudo quando elas estão em constante interação. Na Terra Indígena Xapecó este contexto se dá após o ano de 1941 com a instalação do Posto Indígena, por meio do intervencionismo de estado com o Serviço de Proteção ao Índio.
Largely inhabited by the Kaingang people, the Xapecó/SC Indigenous Land is located in the western part of the state of Santa Catarina. The region has undergone great socio-economic, cultural and environmental changes since the arrival of European immigrants. Based on developmental policies carried out by the State in the course of established contact with indigenous populations, transformations in their daily cultural practices occurred mainly in the diet and health of the people, in conjunction with the dynamicity of cultures, especially when they are in constant interaction. In the Xapecó Indigenous Land this context occurs after the year 1941 with the installation of the Indigenous Post, through state interventionism with the Indian Protection Service.
