A determinação dos níveis de radiação a que o homem está exposto, direta ou indiretamente, é de vital importância para a saúde e bem-estar da sociedade. Esta pesquisa consiste em medir as concentrações de radionuclídeos naturais no açúcar mascavo comercializado na Região Metropolitana do Recife, utilizando a espectrometria gama. Comparando com a literatura disponível, os níveis de radiação no açúcar foram considerados aceitáveis, onde os valores máximos encontrados foram 8,760 Bq.kg-1 para o urânio-238 e 4,235 Bq.kg-1 para o rádio-226.
The determination of radiation levels to which the man is exposed, directly or indirectly, it’s vitally important to the health and well-being of society. This research is to measure the concentrations of natural radionuclides in the brown sugar sold in the metropolitan area of Recife, using gamma spectroscopy. Compared to the available literature, the radiation levels in sugar were considered acceptable, where the maximum values found were 8,760 Bq.kg-1 for uranium-238 and 4,235 Bq.kg-1 for radium-226.
