Estudo bibliográfico sobre o personagem Johann Jacob Sturz (1800-1877), destacando sua trajetória de vida no Brasil e na Região do Prata. No trabalho aborda-se seu projeto civilizador, seus ideais humanitários e a invenção de uma Alemanha além-oceano para atender, principalmente, aos interesses expansionistas dos Estados alemães. Sturz produziu uma imensa literatura na qual apresentou críticas á sociedade brasileira e procurou fazer do cargo de Cônsul Geral do Brasil na Prússia, não um refúgio seguro, e sim propor várias reformas, com destaque para a redistribuição de terras, que acreditava atenuar a fronteira entre a civilização e a barbárie.

Bibliographical study about the charac-ter Johann Jacob Sturz (1800-1877), highlighting his life trajectory in Brazil and Plato Region. In the work it is approached his civilizing project, his humanitarian Ideals and the invention of a Germany beyond- ocean to assist, mainly, the German states expansionist interests. Sturz produced an immense literature in which presented critics about the Brazilian society and he tried to make his positions of General Consul of Brazil in Prussia not a safe refuge but propose several reforms as the agrarian, that believed would attenuate the border between the civilization and the barbarism.
