CONSIDERAÇÕES SOBRE O TOMISMO ANALÍTICO

Neste artigo eu pretendo abordar a influência positiva do movimento chamado
Tomismo Analítico. Contudo, não vou tratar de todos os ramos deste movimento, mas
apenas considerar a possível compatibilidade entre, de um lado, a crítica clássica de
Frege ao psicologismo e, de outro lado, a produção de conceitos pela abstração mental
no caso de Tomás. Como eu pretendo argumentar, para Frege existe uma identidade
entre ideia e imagem mental, a qual é necessariamente subjetiva, no caso de Tomás, em
contrapartida, o conceito é produzido a partir de uma imagem (fantasma), mas não é a
própria imagem. Outra questão a ser tratada é a crítica comumente feita ao tomismo
analítico por não ser ortodoxo. Como também pretendo argumentar, isto não deve ser
visto como algo negativo, mas como uma oportunidade de confrontar alguns aspectos
do pensamento de Tomás com importantes questões contemporâneas.

Resumo Inglês:

In this paper I intend to discuss the positive influence of the so-called Analytical
Thomism. However, I will not discuss all the branches of this movement, but consider
the possible compatibility between the classical fregean criticism of psychologism and
thomist-style concept production by way of abstraction of the mind. As I will argue
for, while for Frege on the one hand there is an identity between idea and mental
image, which is necessarily subjective, for Thomas on the other hand the concept is
produced out of an image (phantasm), but is not the image itself. Another point of
discussion will be a consideration of the critique made to the analytical thomism for
not being orthodox thomism. As I also intend to argue, it shall not be seen as
something negative, but as an opportunity for confronting some aspects of Thomas’
thought with important contemporary issues.
