The present study has as main objective to verify if the land use themes, in the areas of permanent preservation, along the water courses and on the slopes, are in agreement with the Forest Code (Leinº 4.771 of 15/09/1965) in the municipality of Nova Palma - RS. The methodology adopted was based on the implementation of a database in a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) in the computational application SPRING4.2.3. The information plans, land use classes and areas recommended for permanent preservation were overlaid using the languageLEGAL (Spatial Language for Algebraic Geoprocessing). It was identified in the areas of permanent preservation along the drainage, 7.73 Km² of area with agricultural crops and 3.36 km² of field. On the slopes of 45 °, a total area of 2.74 km² was verified with agricultural crops.
