Bibliotecas Públicas e Escolares do Brasil: a visibilidade como meta

Biblioteca é sinônimo de conhecimento e poder. Ter uma sociedade bem instruída é um desafio que o
Brasil pode superar com a ajuda das Bibliotecas, mas é preciso mais envolvimento da sociedade para que
juntas desenvolvam atividades positivas. O presente artigo expõe acerca da relevância e atuação das
Bibliotecas Públicas e Escolares do Brasil. Para isso, são apresentadas as principais características das
mesmas e a importância que cada uma delas representa para suas comunidades específicas. É proposta
uma reflexão sobre a temática em questão, por isso é mostrada a situação em que elas se encontravam na
década de 1990 pelo olhar de alguns autores, assim como algumas evoluções que estas instituições
sofreram nas últimas duas décadas. Aborda ainda sobre o fundamental papel do bibliotecário diante de tal
condição vivenciada. Conclui acerca das necessidades de se debater sobre o tema, visando a novas ideias, e
do desafio em tornar esses tipos de bibliotecas mais presentes no cotidiano da sociedade.

Library is considered the place of power and knowledge. Having a society well-organized is the main challenge that Brazil is
facing to overcoming the lacking of available libraries, however it is important to have in mind the importance of developing
strategies to organize and provide overall structure in terms of library availability and access. The present paper aims to
investigate the relevance and future working plans towards the public libraries in Brazil. To this end, firstly the main
characteristics regarding the organization, structure and the content to the surrounded community was studied. Secondly, it
was proposed a general working plan about this question and how to solve it in short and long term in the 1990s, including
the consideration and the opinion of notorious experts on this Field, as well as some changes that theses suffered at the last
two decades. Finally, the key role of the librarian was analyzed in great detail. In conclusion, it was observed the key
importance of this research field to help the organization and structuring of public library all over Brazil, bringing to the
central discussion new ideas, working plan, as well as the crucial importance of librarian present in the library and its role in
the society
