Em 2019 todo o litoral do Nordeste e parte do Sudeste brasileiro foram atingidos por um grande derrame de óleo, constituindo-se em um dos maiores desastres socioambientais do país. O Rio Grande do Norte foi um dos estados com maior impacto devido à grande quantidade de localidades atingidas. Este desastre repercutiu na contaminação de ambientes costeiros e marinhos, assim como na elevada mortalidade de animais e paralisação de atividades como o turismo e pesca, repercutindo em graves impactos para as comunidades que vivem e dependem do litoral. O presente estudo teve como objetivo geral caracterizar os impactos sociais e econômicos do derrame de óleo no turismo, no litoral do município de Nísia Floresta - Rio Grande do Norte. Para tanto, foram realizadas entrevistas com gestores de empresas nas praias atingidas do município, abordando questões sobre redução do funcionamento das atividades, interrupção do faturamento e alteração da imagem dos negócios locais. O estudo evidenciou os impactos sociais e econômicos que impactaram empreendimentosturísticos, dentre estes a redução de faturamento, alterações nos produtos ofertados e diminuição do fluxo turístico, demonstrando assim a vulnerabilidade destes destinos no que se refere a desastres ambientais como este.

In 2019, the entire coast of the Northeast and part of the Southeast of Brazil was hit by a large oil spill, constituting one of the biggest socio-environmental disasters in the country. Rio Grande do Norte was one of the states with the greatest impact due to the large number of affected locations. This disaster resulted in the contamination of coastal and marine environments, as well as in the high mortality of animals and the interruption of activities such as tourism and fishing, resulting in serious impacts for the communities that live and depend on the coast. The present study had as general objective to characterize the social and economic impacts of the oil spill on tourism, on the coast of the municipality of Nísia Floresta - Rio Grande do Norte. To this end, interviews were carried out with managers of companies on the affected beaches of the municipality, addressing questions about reducing the operation of activities, interruption of billing and changing the image of the business it conducts. The study highlighted the social and economic impacts that impacted tourism enterprises, including the reduction in revenue, changes in the products offered and a decrease in the tourist flow, thus demonstrating the vulnerability of these destinations to environmental disasters such as this one.
