A investigação debruçou-se sobre a documentação do primeiro Reitor da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Propõe-se o estudo e investigação do Arquivo Privado do Professor Dr. João David Ferreira Lima. Pesquisar sobre a história vivida pelo personagem principal levou a estudar seu arquivo privado com o objetivo de saber o que seus documentos contavam sobre sua vida, suas obras, seus pensamentos e ações na época da criação da UFSC (1960). Tornou-se necessário reunir os demais documentos que formam esse arquivo uma vez que as informações sobre o primeiro reitor da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) e criador da mesma, estavam em outros acervos. A conservação, a preservação da memória do patrimônio documental constitui a história da Universidade no mapeamento de seus acervos. Relevância do estudo sobre esse Arquivo Privado consiste em que seu patrimônio documental representa a memória do desenvolvimento da educação da sociedade catarinense, traça a evolução do pensamento e realizações dessa sociedade. É o legado do passado para o presente. Dar conhecimento deste legado a comunidade universitária e posteriormente, a todos que queiram conhecer, é preservar e conservar a memória patrimonial da UFSC.
The research focused on the documentation of the first Rector of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. It is proposed the study and investigation of the Private Archives of Professor Dr. João David Ferreira Lima. Searching about the history lived by the main character led him to study his private archive toknow what his documents told about his life, his works, his thoughts and actions at the time of the creation of UFSC (1960). It became necessary to gather the other documents that form thisarchive since the information about the first rector of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and creator of the same, were in other collections. The preservation and preservation of the memory of documentary heritage constitutes the history of the University in the mapping of its collections. Relevance of the study on this Private Archive is that its documentary heritage represents the memory of the development of the education of the society of Santa Catarina, traces the evolution of the thought and achievements of that society. It is the legacy of the past to the present.
