Resumo Português:

O amor n’O Romance de Tristão e Isolda, apesar de adúltero, contava com a aprovação do
público, especialmente porque atendia aos seus anseios. A obra demonstra, em certa medida, as mudanças
e rupturas que a mentalidade do homem estava experimentando. A glorificação do amor no romance
traduz o ideário medieval, contrário às restrições à liberdade amorosa impostas pelos clérigos. Após um
longo período de escassez e repressão, o homem se permitia, finalmente, sonhar, desejar, e também
questionar, duvidar, desobedecer, se preciso. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar como e por que O
Romance de Tristão e Isolda pode ser considerado um ícone de exaltação à liberdade e ao amor.



Resumo Inglês:

Love in The Romance of Tristan and Iseult, although it was adulterous, had the sympathy from
people, especially because it was in accordance with their wistfulness. The work demonstrates, in a way,
the changes and ruptures that the mentality of the man was experiencing. The glorification of love in the
romance manifests the medieval idea, against the restrictions on freedom to love, imposed by clerics.
After a very long time of scarcity and repression, the man took the liberty of dreaming, desiring, also
questioning, doubting, if it was necessary. The aim of this work is to analyze how and why The Romance
of Tristan and Iseult can be considered an icon of freedom and love.
