Este estudo analisa as temáticas e as razões pelas quais territorialistas e sionistas do fin du siècle e das primeiras décadas do século XX decidiram expandir os seus “horizontes” para assim contemplar outras opções plausíveis para a criação de uma pátria israelita além da primeira e óbvia escolha, nomeadamente, a Palestina e a criação do futuro Estado de Israel (14 de maio de 1948). Após uma breve apresentação das outras escolhas territoriais, a abrangerem espaços dispersos por todos os continentes, concentrar-nos-emos na “opção angolana” (1907-1914), nos vários projetos e alvitres para alcançar ou evitar esta meta e nas consequentes dinâmicas sociopolíticas que deixaram marcos indeléveis na economia do Estado português.

In this study I will analyze the premises and the reasons why Territorialistsand Zionists of the fin du siècle and the first decades of the 20th century decided to expand their “horizons” so that they could contemplate other plausible options for the creation of a Jewish homeland other than their first and obvious choice, namely, Palestine and the creation of the future State of Israel (May 14, 1948). After a brief survey of the other territorial choices, encompassing diverse areas throughout the world, I will concentrate on the “Angolan option” (1907-1914), looking at the different projects and recommendations in favor or against this choice, as well as the consequent sociopolitical dynamics that left indelible marks on the economy of the Portuguese State of this time.
